5626 hectares
244 inhabitants

The settlement stretches over an area whose altitude varies from 450m ("Cirque de Baumes"-in the Tarn Gorges) to 1000m at its highest point ("l’Ancise"), and encompasses several villages and hamlets.
Archeological digs have revealed that the area has been inhabited for many, many centuries; numerous caves with traces of habitation have been discovered and human skulls unearthed at the “Baumes Chaudes” cave.

In our opinion, in order to best appreciate all that Le Massegros can offer, you should start with a visit to the aptly named Point Sublime, from which you will enjoy spectacular views over the Tarn Gorges, notably the Cirque des Baumes.  From here, a path leads you to the chapel of St Hilaire. Continue your tour by visiting the villages of Soulages, Serres and les Fonts.  You will be able to judge for yourself the merits of the area.
